Elon Musk’s father explains why he’s not proud of his son

In an interview for Australian radio, Errol Musk, Elon Musk's father, made several disparaging statements about his son, his life and his career.

In the Musk family, we handle the art of the sentence which stings wonderfully. Errol, the father, demonstrated this in a recent interview for an Australian radio show, The Kyle and Jackie O Show. He was obviously asked about his family and in particular his son Elon Musk, boss of Tesla and SpaceX, and, incidentally, the richest man in the world.

The show's presenter described Elon Musk as a man "who represents a lot of money and has created a lot of things". "You must be very proud of him…how does that feel to you?" Are you proud of him? – she asks. With an almost disconcerting spontaneity, the 79-year-old man replies: “No. In our family, we have been doing a lot of things for a long time. It's not like we suddenly started doing things. When they were little, the children traveled with me, they did very interesting things," explains Errol Musk, citing their trips to the Amazon or China. So, in the Musk family, Elon would be a child like the others? His father concedes all the same that he succeeded in "exceeding the mark" family.

Elon Musk is not the favorite son

However, the wonder boy would be late in his career, believes Errol Musk, an engineer by profession. “Frustrated by progress”, Elon Musk “would have liked to get to where he is today five years ago”, reveals the patriarch between two unrewarding comments. "Elon is very strong, but he eats badly," he said, for example, recommending that he take a weight loss supplement. As for the sentimental life of his son? Elon Musk can apparently only be accompanied by a dedicated and self-effacing woman: “He has to find a woman [who can] give up what she is doing, and it is not easy.»

As a final blow, Errol Musk assured that his son Kimbal Musk is “the pride and joy of his life”. Restaurateur, ecologist and successful entrepreneur, Elon's brother is the majority shareholder of Tesla. He also sits on the board of directors of SpaceX.
