The tennis champion and his partner are expecting. The sex of the baby has just been revealed: it is a boy who is expected to be born in the coming months.
A new roller coaster ride in the tennis world. After the sad news of Roger Federer's retirement and the end of his career, a sweet touch comes from Rafael Nadal. The clay court specialist has revealed the sex of his future child. His wife Mery Perello is pregnant with a boy, Spanish newspaper Hola reported. The tabloid initially speculated that the young woman was showing off her baby bump during a beach trip with her husband.
Usually very discreet about his private life, the champion finally confirmed at a press conference in Mallorca in June that the couple was expecting. "I don't usually talk about my private life. We live a quieter life without exposing ourselves. I don't expect my daily life to change much with this event," he said.
17 years of happiness and a great marriage
Rafael Nadal and Mery Perello met in high school and have been together for more than 17 years. Xisca (Mery Perello's nickname) left her job at an insurance company to join her partner's charity project, the Nadal Foundation, created 10 years ago. She now directs the foundation's projects. The couple married in 2019 in a lavish ceremony in the town of Pollença, Mallorca, the island where the world number three was born. The celebrations were held at the famous villa La Fortaleza, where Real Madrid player Gareth Bale had also celebrated his union with Emma Rhys-Jones.
A few months later, Rafael Nadal had spoken to Hello! Magazine about his desire to become a father: "Of course I want to have a family. I love children very much and I would like my children to feel free to do what they want with their lives." If the calculations are correct, the baby is expected to give his first wail in late winter 2023.
