In recent times, leather jackets have become weird. In a good way! The popularity of biker jackets has grown, but not the traditional black double riders or minimalist cafe racers. The year 2022 has revalued motorbike-related fashion. The blinding primary colours of sponsors on clothes do more NASCAR than New York Fashion Week. In keeping with the 20-year fashion cycle, these flashy garments are everywhere: worn alongside tiny Matrix-inspired sunglasses and big trainers, or gothic boots if you're particularly Y2K. It's fun. But there will always be room for a simple black leather jacket.
A$AP knows this. He has already worn leather in everything from Marlon Brando-esque garments to trucker jackets. Now for his latest trick, he has dug into his wardrobe and pulled out a classic bomber jacket complete with pointed collar and elasticated cuffs. It's the kind of jacket that American air force pilots wore in the 1950s, but thanks to the slightly boxy fit it reminds us of Bruce Willis/Arnie in the 1990s and we're loving it.
