Phoebe Dynevor leaves the Bridgerton Chronicle series

Let Lady Whistledown know! It's the most talked about news in town.

After debuting last March, season two of The Bridgerton Chronicle has grown the series' success, breaking its own record to become the most watched English-language series on Netflix. Fans were therefore delighted to hear that the series had been renewed for a third and fourth season, and that a Queen Charlotte spin-off was in the pipeline. But loyal viewers of the series will be devastated to learn that a major character in the Bridgerton family will not be returning for season 3: Phoebe Dynevor, who plays Daphne Bridgerton, wife of the dashing Duke played by Regé-Jean Page.

"I've done my two seasons," Phoebe Dynevor recently told Variety, "I've done what I wanted to do with this character and she's had a great arc. If I'm asked back in the future, who knows?" It's perhaps a logical next step for her character's plot, given that Regé-Jean Page bowed out before Season 2, leaving a fairly obvious duke-shaped hole in the storyline – and the duchess played by Dynevor a little lost in the shuffle.

Despite Phoebe Dynevor's absence, there will still be plenty to enjoy in season 3. A recent video shows Penelope Featherington, played by Nicola Coughlan, wearing a powder pink dress with short, puffy sleeves and a tiara. She makes an elaborate curtsy, accompanied by a hand gesture, and the caption says: "Something tells me that the third season of Miss Featherington will be the most successful yet".

In another Instagram photo, two of the cast members – Simone Ashley, the actress who plays Kate Sharma, and Jonathan Bailey, who plays Viscount Anthony Bridgerton – are holding ice creams in front of a bright pink van, hinting that the star couple from season 2 will indeed be back. In fact, Netflix previously shared a fun behind-the-scenes video in July, in which the cast members hold up three fingers to show that Season 3 is on its way.

In an interview with E! News at Time100's Next Gala, Simone Ashley revealed that the next chapter will be "very steamy", adding that there will be "central condensation". The Bridgerton Chronicle is well known for its romantic content, frequently including steamy scenes.

It was previously announced that the next season would deviate from the order of Julia Quinn's novels on which the Shondaland series is based: it will focus not on Benedict Bridgerton, but on his brother, Colin, and his relationship with Penelope Featherington.
