Katie Holmes, who wrote, directed and starred in the film, brought in Suri to record a cover of "Blue Moon" for the opening credits. "I always want the highest level of talent," Holmes told Yahoo Entertainment. “So I asked Suri! She's very, very talented. She said she would do it and recorded the song and I let her do her thing. Here's how I direct in general: I'm like, 'That's what we all want – do your thing.'"
"Blue Moon" has a high sentimental value for the mother-daughter duo. According to Holmes, she was inspired by Diane Keaton's own rendition of "Blue Moon" for Rob Reiner's 2014 film Bordering Love: "Diane met my daughter when she was a year old," Katie Holmes told Yahoo .
It's not the first time Suri has acted in one of her mother's films: "She actually sang in 'Rare Objects' – the film we shot last fall," shared the proud mother. "Other than that, she's a 16-year-old kid going through high school."
Suri Cruise was born in 2006 to Katie Holmes and her ex-husband Tom Cruise; six years later, the "Dawson's Creek" actress was awarded sole custody. “I like to keep Suri out of my interviews. However, the whole quarantine period during the corona pandemic has been a huge lesson for me and us," said Katie Holmes in an interview with the Daily Telegraph in 2020.
