Kate Winslet breaks out a 2015 dress for the Avatar 2 premiere

British actress Kate Winslet walked the carpet at the Avatar 2 premiere wearing the same dress she wore to the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival.

Kate Winslet is drawing on her extensive collection of red carpet looks, built up over her nearly three-decade career, by wearing one of her favourite pieces again.

This Tuesday in London, the actress walked the blue carpet at the world premiere of Avatar: The Way of the Water in a charcoal grey Badgley Mischka gown she wore seven years earlier. The dress featured a halter top with glittering silver floral embellishments on the sides and a column skirt with a slight train. The actress previously wore the same dress to the Toronto International Film Festival in 2015 to attend the premiere of her film The Dressmaker. During both appearances, she opted for an upswept bun, natural makeup and diamond earrings. This singular Badgley Mischka look is still available on Rent The Runway for just $179, with the original retail price listed at $1190.

"The dresses, the fittings… It's so stressful"

Expect to see Kate Winslet doing a lot more shopping in her own wardrobe in the near future. In September 2020, she told Vanity Fair that the best thing about the pandemic bringing Hollywood to a standstill was that she no longer had to go through the nightmarish process of fittings for various red carpets. "The dresses, the fittings… It's so stressful, and I know it sounds like 'Oh, there's Kate Winslet talking about the stress of award show fittings', but it's nerve-wracking. I don't like having to squeeze my mum body into a red carpet dress that I'll never wear again. The money that is wasted on it. The hours and stress people put into these things… The incredible artists who make these dresses are wonderful, but to make something that will only be worn once. I've already decided not to wear dresses repeatedly. It will have to come out, but whatever."

Kate Winslet added: "I love not getting into these fucking dresses and fucking shoes. All that money. It's always hurt me, the money that's wasted is colossal. Why on earth does it matter? If I cared about how I looked, I would have put on makeup right away."
