Among the many victims is Jack, a dog that was rescued by volunteers in Kupyansk, in the Kharkiv region, a few days after the Ukrainian armed forces recaptured the city. The animal had been seriously injured by the bombs: deaf and with some fractured bones, he was transported to Kiev.
In the Ukrainian capital he was treated by vets, who extracted fragments of shrapnel from his back for five days. Many people then took action to find him a home. The appeal by Oles Malyarevich, vice president of the Kiev city council, began to circulate across the border and Bocelli, who heard about the episode, decided to take action to save him and bring him to Italy. The first moving images of the meeting between the tenor and Jack were posted on social media by Malyarevich himself: 'Miracles happen even in the darkest moments. Thanks to the Bocelli family for their big hearts and kindness. We wish Jack a new happy life!".
Jack is not the only dog rescued by Andrea Bocelli and his family these days. Travelling in Egypt, the tenor and his wife Veronica found an injured dog in a pit in the street. Treated, she was then taken with them to Italy. The tenor's daughter Virginia named her Jolie, 'bringer of joy'.
