A man broke into the home of the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and assaulted her husband, Paul Pelosi. The 82-year-old man was hospitalized.

Drama at the Pelosi's San Francisco home. On Friday morning, October 28, a man broke into the California home of Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, before violently assaulting her husband, Paul Pelosi. The 82-year-old man was transferred to the hospital where he is receiving "excellent care," said a spokesperson for the couple. The Democrat was not present at her home at the time of the incident.

Few details have been released about the circumstances of the attack. Drew Hammill, the Pelosi spokesman, simply insisted on the "violent" nature of the attack. An investigation is underway to understand the motives of the assailant, whose identity is currently unknown. The man has been taken into custody.

Increase in threats

The attack comes two weeks before the mid-term elections, a major vote in the United States to renew the elected officials of both houses of Congress. Several U.S. elected officials had, in recent weeks, warned the media about an increase in threats against them. According to the Capitol Police, threats against elected officials in Congress have more than doubled since 2017, from 3,939 to 9,625 in 2021.

Paul Francis Pelosi Sr. is an American businessman who heads Financial Leasing Services, Inc. a San Francisco-based real estate investment and consulting firm. He is the former owner of the Sacramento Mountain Lions of the United Football League.
