The interpreter of Spiderman, Tom Holland, shared a video in which he confesses to having deleted the applications Instagram and Twitter, for concern for his mental health.
Spiderman needs a break. Tom Holland, the interpreter of the Marvel superhero, announces the suspension of all his social networks, reports the BBC. In a video posted on his Instagram account on August 14, 2022, the actor explains that he made this decision to protect his mental health.
“I find that Instagram and Twitter are too oppressive, he begins. When I read things about myself on the networks, I start going in circles and it becomes bad for my mental health. So I decided to delete the apps,” the 26-year-old admits in his three-minute video.
Before retiring for an indefinite period, Holland still took advantage of his last appearance to highlight the British association Stem4, which raises awareness about the mental health of adolescents. “Mental health is horribly stigmatized, but I know no one should be ashamed to ask for help,” he says.
Stem4 is supported by Holland's foundation, The Brothers Trust. Founded in 2017 by Nikki and Dom Holland, Tom's parents, the association aims to "give a voice to causes that are struggling to be heard". With his three brothers, Sam, Harry and Paddy, the star of Spiderman: No Way Home organizes fundraisers to support various actions that promote, for example, access to care and education.
The video moved Holland's 67 million subscribers. Thousands of supportive fan comments quickly appeared under his post. Several stars also reacted to his message, like Justin Bieber who commented with a simple but effective “Love you, man” (I love you my friend).
