Actress star of the American series The Wonder Years, Danica McKellar has long wanted to prove her worth outside of television. She therefore decided to embark on a career as a mathematician, after studying at UCLA.
From television to subtractions. Actress Danica McKellar has traded the spotlight to devote herself to a career as a mathematician. The former interpreter of Winnie Cooper in the series The Wonder Years explained her choice in an interview she gave to ET Online.
It is his 11-year-old son, Draco, who asks his own questions. When asked about his early career as a child star, McKellar replies that "it was difficult to find my balance between school and work. She adds that she remembers many trips back and forth between sets and school to do her homework quickly.
Books to reconcile children with mathematics
When she decided to take a break from her television career, the 47-year-old actress became a mathematician. “I studied at UCLA (University of California at Los Angeles) but everywhere on campus, I was challenged by “Hey Winnie!” or 'I adored you in The Wonder Years',” she shares.
The former actress was therefore looking for a way to break away from this image that stuck to her skin. "I wanted to prove that I was worth something outside of Winnie's character. Mathematics was a real challenge and I was doing well,” she says. Before adding that she cherished this feeling of having value regardless of her physique or her appearances on television.
Since then, Danica McKellar has written no less than eleven children's books on mathematics. His latest book is called Double Puppy Trouble and was released on July 26, 2022.
His book of sleep stories Goodnight numbers, aimed at children aged 0 to 5, was a New York Times bestseller in the year of its release, in 2018. He also received the Mathical Book Prize which each year rewards books that help children learn mathematics.
