Robert Pattinson has selected six works as curators for an auction organized by Sotheby's in late September.
Robert Pattinson offers his most arty role, away from the cameras: curator for an auction of the house Sotheby's. The actor joins the prestigious guests of the Contemporary Curated circle, organized by the company since 2013. He thus succeeds the rapper Skepta -who recently auctioned one of his own paintings-, the DJ Steve Aoki and the goddess of the American media Oprah Winfrey.
Six works have been chosen by Robert Pattinson for the sale organized on September 30th at Sotheby's New York. They will be exposed to the public a week before. In a statement, the actor returned to the connection between film and visual arts: "Acting made me realize that there is an interconnection between all art forms, and that made the process of organizing the sale a fascinating and fun experience for me." According to Artnet News, Lynette Yiadom-Boakye's painting Old Rope, Richard Serra's installation Rotation #9 and Willem De Kooning's abstract painting Untitled are among the actor's selections. Untitled would be the most expensive work in the series, estimated at $1.8 million to $2.5 million.
"What I look for is when a piece has its own language," says Pattinson. "I navigate between things that feel very deep, cosmic and foreign. And then, on the other hand, I also like subversive, naughty, slightly dangerous stuff…" And the actor gives a friendly advice to future buyers: "Only buy pieces that you will love, no matter what. Just having something you're going to keep for the rest of your life is probably the best idea."
