Princess Charlene and Prince Albert II in the front row of the Alicia Keys concert

The sovereign couple were the stars of the 73rd Monegasque Red Cross Gala: the occasion of a majestic dinner on the terrace of the Casino, followed by a concert by Alicia Keys, in great shape despite the scorching temperatures.

It is 8:30 p.m. on Monday July 18 when Princess Charlene of Monaco and Sovereign Prince Albert II join the crowd of guests on the Casino terrace overlooking the sea. Monaco only knows them. In the lobby of the Hôtel de Paris, the Principality's jewel of a hotel where the princely couple has its habits in the room, women in long dresses and gentlemen in tuxedos meet to cover, on foot, the few meters separating them from the 73rd gala of the Monegasque Red Cross, even if, a regular whispers to us, "the Prince has wanted to make it a less formal, more relaxed event for two years".

Moreover, as of last year, many were those who wondered at the mysterious mention appearing on the invitation card: “elegant outfit”, and no longer long dresses and tuxedo. Casual, but Monaco-style, where couture creations, high heels, and jewelry – like the remarkable necklace worn by Marquise Roberta Sigestito. At the photocall, it was Camille Gotlieb, the prince's niece, who also made a remarkable appearance in a Valentino Red outfit: the 24-year-old young woman, a non-dynast personality of the princely family, rarely appears in official events. Since last year, she has chaired the youth section of the Monegasque Red Cross, chaired by her uncle for 40 years this year and the death of Princess Grace. Princess Charlene has been its vice-president since 2021.

This 73rd edition, intended to be cooler than the previous ones, is held outdoors. It is hot this Thursday in Monaco, even if the temperatures are not as scorching as in the west and the interior of France. The dinner is introduced by a speech by Adriana Karembeu and Imany, who announce the raffle and then the concert by Alicia Keys. On the table, a fan has been placed for 400 guests, while hostesses offer to buy lottery tickets, which can be a good investment: they cost 100 euros each, but among the prizes are a stay in a resort in the Maldives, a pair of Louis Vuitton sneakers designed by Virgil Abloh in collaboration with Nike, a Patek Philippe watch, a white gold Cartier necklace…

All for a good cause: this is the principle of this type of event, where everyone can afford a place on one of the long tables, the price of which (high) will be donated to the benefit of the Cross -Red of Monaco. With nearly 630 volunteers, this institution mobilized more than 8.3 million euros in Monaco and the rest of the world in 2021, for projects as varied as first aid training, help for the elderly, but also also humanitarian actions carried out in Kenya, Somalia, West Africa and Afghanistan.

But back to the event that funds such programs. Dinner is served in the form of appetizers, whether appetizers (Cavaillon melon and foie gras, vegetable roll, tomato with spider crab and basil, etc.) and starters (with gamberoni, quenelle of caviar on zucchini flower, its tomato-mozzarella) and the dishes, at which time the draw allows the lucky winners to collect their prizes, and to greet Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene of Monaco, whom we calls, on the Rock, the sovereign couple.

And among Monegasque habits and protocol, there is a rule that no one deviates from: get up when the sovereign couple enters. This will of course be the case when Prince Albert and Princess Charlene of Monaco join the Place du Casino, where a giant stage, installed for three days, will soon host Alicia Keys' concert. Sitting in the front row, next to Camille Gottlieb, they attend together the screening of a film reporting the importance of the organization founded in 1948 by Prince Louis II of Monaco. It is in a mini bolero and just with a rhinestone body that Alicia Keys makes her appearance, for a frenzied performance, despite the heat which still reigns after 10:30 p.m.
