Margot Robbie is "Barbie" in the film of the same name, and her neon pink rollerskate outfits with Ryan Gosling went viral a few weeks ago. Find out why she is ashamed of the pictures and the outfits here.
What was the funniest day of the year for us, actress Margot Robbie probably experienced a little differently. This year, filming began on director Greta Gerwig's Barbie remake – and although nothing is really known about the film's plot yet, we were surprised in June with pictures of Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in neon partner looks, cruising down Venice Beach on roller skates. The pictures, shot by paparazzi, went viral within hours and were the basis for many memes on the internet. However, Margot Robbie did not expect this popularity…
Margot Robbie ashamed of her outfit in the "Barbie" film
In an interview that is actually about her new film "Amsterdam", the iconic pictures from the set of the "Barbie" film were naturally brought up. Margot Robbie laughs at first, but you can see that she is particularly embarrassed by the outfit in the 1980s neon swimming costume with the bright yellow arm guards.
"It looks like we're laughing and having fun, but inside we're dying," Margot Robbie said in the interview with Jimmy Fallon as he puts the roller-skating picture with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling on the table. "It's the most embarrassing moment of my life." During the shoot, she didn't think the pictures would go so viral. Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling had to film a few scenes outside, and she was aware that pictures would be taken of her. But she could not imagine this kind of attention.
"I knew the pictures would get some attention," the actress continued. "A few photos would certainly get out to the public, but not like that. It was gross." Because instead of a few people gathering around the set to see the first images of the much-anticipated feature film, there were probably hundreds of people waiting with their cameras for Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.
In the scene, Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling cruise through Venice Beach on their roller skates in 80s outfits. There was also an outfit change during the shoot: Margot Robbie shows up in a pink western style with a white cowboy hat. But unfortunately the production is kept quite secret and we don't know yet what the "Barbie" film will really be about. It has been rumoured that a Barbie multiverse will probably open – but these are all just rumours.
The only thing that is already known are the salaries. Variety magazine published the actors' salaries – and they are pretty impressive. Margot Robbie probably got 12.5 million US dollars for the "Barbie" film, making her the highest paid actress in Hollywood. Ryan Gosling probably got the same amount, so that the two share 16th place on the latest list of "Variety" for Hollywood's top earners. (By the way: Tom Cruise in "Top Gun: Marverick" is pretty, pretty far behind in first place with 100 million US dollars).
