The dark reality of working for Kanye West

The dark reality of working for Kanye West

It's been a bombshell in the media sky since the publication of an article, signed by Rolling Stone magazine, incriminating Kanye West. The newspaper reported the claims of some of the Yeezy collaboration's employees that he showed them "explicit" photos and videos as part of bullying tactics. The damning letter, titled "The Truth About Yeezy: A Demand for Action from Adidas Executives" sees former Yeezy team members testify to the "toxic and chaotic environment that Kanye West created".  In the open letter, the authors denounce the celebrity's "very unhealthy predatory behaviour towards women". The allegations from the staff, who wished to remain anonymous, highlighted the dark reality of working for Kanye West. Behind the scenes, boss Ye has done more than test the limits of professionalism.

According to the allegations against the media monster, he showed Yeezy team members pornographic videos and nude photos of his ex-wife Kim Kardashian, as well as his own sex tapes shown at job interviews and other events. Footage of the provocative star showing pornography to Yeezy and Adidas executives was also publicly aired in a 30-minute documentary last month. "I feel that [West showing porn] was a tactic to break a person and establish their unwavering allegiance to him, testing and destroying people's boundaries." Another employee, a senior manager at Yeezy, tells Rolling Stone: "He'd be in a meeting, he'd be talking to you, and he'd be rushing to his laptop. And he'd say, 'I know it's embarrassing, but I need it in the background to stay focused".

Adidas turns a deaf ear

"As much as we'd all like to blame Kanye alone, the undeniable truth is that the Adidas executive team and board of directors were huge enablers," testifies a former Kanye West employee. The revealing open letter insists that Adidas executives were aware of the rapper's "problematic behaviour" but "turned off their moral compass", raising the question of whether its business partner could have intervened ahead of this new scandal. Adidas said it did not yet know whether the allegations were true. "It is not clear whether the accusations made in an anonymous letter are true. However, we take these allegations very seriously and have taken the decision to immediately launch an independent investigation into the matter to address the allegations," the company said in a statement on Thursday. Publicly, West confessed to a "total addiction to pornography" that "destroyed my family". Many former Yeezy and Adidas employees regret accepting what they saw as an unwritten rule from Adidas management: "Kanye is just Kanye".

Kanye West at the centre of numerous controversies

In October, the rapper was banned from his Twitter account after a dangerously anti-Semitic remark. An anti-Semitic remark that led to his collaboration with Adidas being terminated. In a now-deleted tweet, he said he would go "death con 3" on Jews. Ye's account has since been reinstated by Elon Musk. Ye didn't wait to celebrate his return by writing "Shalom : )", which is "Peace" in Hebrew on the famous social network. Recently, Kanye West was spotted at Mar-a-Lago, a residence owned by Trump, accompanied by Nick Fuentes, a notorious anti-Semite and denier. Shortly after this meeting, the rapper announced on Twitter that he intended to ask Trump to join him in the 2024 presidential race.
