The singer, who only a few days ago performed at Rock in Rio, explained that he needs time to rest and recover. He had claimed in June that he had Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which caused partial facial paralysis.
His health condition does not allow him to continue: Justin Bieber pauses Justice World Tour. "I need to prioritize my health now," the singer wrote on Instagram on Sept. 7. "I will be fine, but I need time to rest and recover."
The illness Justin Bieber has been battling with for several months now is Ramsay Hunt syndrome, a neurological condition that can develop as a result of Herpes Zoster virus infection. The virus can have serious effects: in addition to paralyzing nerves in the face and causing blisters on the outer and inner ear and near the nose and mouth, it can lead to hearing loss. The consequences can, in rare cases, become permanent.
The singer had first told fans about the disease in early June, showing in a video the paralysis that blocked half his face making it difficult for him to eat, smile and, of course, sing. Because of this, some U.S. dates of the Justice Tour had been canceled. After a period of rest and dutiful discussion with doctors, family members and collaborators, however, Justin Bieber had decided to resume the summer tour in Europe. The fact had suggested that his health condition had improved considerably, but in fact the singer confessed that the last few live shows had cost him a lot of effort.
"Last weekend I performed at Rock in Rio and gave it everything I have. After I got off the stage, I was overcome with exhaustion and realized that I need to prioritize my health now." Hence the decision to take a break from touring, which is still expected to include 70 more live concerts between now and March 2023 between South America, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.
