“Joker: Folie à deux”: Joaquin Phoenix appears very thin in the first images of the film

The first image of Joaquin Phoenix in Joker: Madness for Two has been released by director Todd Philipps. The film is due to hit cinemas on 2 October 2024.

The Joker (2019) director Todd Philipps has unveiled an image from the first day of shooting of the film's sequel, dubbed Joker: Folie à Deux, on his Instagram account. The photograph reveals a ten-pound Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck, captioned "Day 1. Our boy. #joker". The 48-year-old American actor won the Best Actor Oscar for his performance as the criminal mastermind in 2020. The film itself earned a billion dollars at the box office.

An unknown plot

The plot of the sequel remains unknown for the moment. Lady Gaga, who will take on the role of Harley Quinn, will star alongside Joaquin Phoenix. Zazie Beetz will play Sophie Dumond, Brendan Gleeson and Catherine Keener. The script was co-written by Todd Philipps and Joker co-writer Scott Silver. The first film followed an aspiring stand-up comedian working as a clown and suffering from mental health problems. The man would then slip into a psychological state before taking on the iconic character of the Joker.

For the moment, only one clue is available. The title 'Folie à deux' refers to the shared psychotic disorder, which affects two or more individuals. Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix will fall in love and unite for better or for worse.
