Jane Fonda reveals, “I have cancer. I’m lucky, I can cure myself.”

The Oscar-winning star announcing the illness on social media said she was optimistic about the chances of recovery: "80% of people survive." She then delivered a political message: "I am privileged. Too many Americans don't have access to the quality care I receive, and that's not fair."

Actress Jane Fonda, 84, has "completely curable cancer." She announced this herself in a lengthy Instagram post explaining that she has been diagnosed with "non-Hodgkin's lymphoma," a cancer of the lymphatic system, and has "started chemotherapy treatments." The two-time Oscar winner said she was optimistic about her chances of a cure: "This is a very treatable cancer, 80 percent of people survive, so I also feel very lucky because I have health insurance and access to the best doctors and treatments," she wrote. And then delivered a political message: "I realize, and it is painful, that I am privileged. Almost every family in America has dealt with illness in one way or another, and too many people cannot afford the quality of health care service I am receiving. This is not fair."

In her message, Jane, who had previously battled breast cancer and skin cancer, spoke about health but also about the environment, emphasizing the role of fossil fuels and pesticides in cancer: "I'm six months into chemotherapy, I'm responding to treatment very well, and believe me, I'm not going to let that interfere with my climate activism," she promised. "The midterm elections are approaching and will have far-reaching consequences. So you can count on me to accompany you in growing our army of climate champions."

After her announcement on Instagram, where she has nearly two million followers, the actress and activist was overwhelmed by an avalanche of affection. Giving her support were a flood of ordinary people but also many stars. Like Diane Keaton, who commented, "We love you, Jane. You are my hero. You are a warrior. All my life I have been amazed by everything you do. I will continue to admire the crusader you always have been and always will be." Reese Witherspoon sent Jane "healing light, love and strength" via social, Noemi Campbell her prayers: "It is so important to have a positive mindset. And you do, God bless you." Lenny Kravitz also wanted to let the diva feel all his support: "You are a warrior. This will pass. I send you all my love and healing energy. God is with you."
