She announced this herself in a lengthy Instagram post explaining that she has been diagnosed with "non-Hodgkin's lymphoma," a cancer of the lymphatic system, and has "started chemotherapy treatments." The two-time Oscar winner said she was optimistic about her chances of a cure: "This is a very treatable cancer, 80 percent of people survive, so I also feel very lucky because I have health insurance and access to the best doctors and treatments," she wrote. And then delivered a political message: "I realize, and it is painful, that I am privileged. Almost every family in America has dealt with illness in one way or another, and too many people cannot afford the quality of health care service I am receiving. This is not fair."
