Seven months after the Oscar slap episode, Jada Pinkett Smith has announced that she will be releasing a book next autumn to tell her tormented personal story.
Jada Pinkett Smith is speaking her truth and celebrating "authentic female power" with the publication of her memoir. The Red Table Talk host announced this week that she will be releasing a book next fall from HarperCollins' Dey Street Books. The title is not yet known, according to People. According to the press release for the book, Jada Pinkett Smith "recounts the lessons learned on a difficult but compelling journey – a roller coaster ride from the depths of suicidal depression to the heights of personal rediscovery and celebration of authentic female power.
The press release continues: "Unfiltered, Jada looks back on her unconventional upbringing in Baltimore – from child of two drug addicts to promising theatre student to a violent interlude as a petty drug dealer – followed by a parallel rise to fame alongside her close friend 2Pac, then her love and marriage to Will Smith, and a joyous experience of motherhood."
Two unexpected love stories
The book also analyses why Jada Pinkett Smith found herself "in crisis at the age of 40" and "recounts the excruciating choices she had to make to redefine her life in every way". The description concludes, "At the heart of this powerful book are two unexpected love stories, one being Jada Smith's complicated marriage to Will Smith, the other being the one she forms with herself." The book comes out shortly after the best-selling memoir of her husband, Will, in November 2021, co-authored with Mark Manson.
Carrie Thornton, vice president and editorial director of Dey Street Books, said of the new book, "The world has placed many stories and labels on Jada Pinkett Smith. At the centre of all the speculation and false narratives is a woman who, like so many others, has had to reconcile her personality with the needs of those she loves. In this memoir, Jada gives the world her truth, and takes readers on a journey from lost girl to warrior woman. It is a great honour for me to take this journey with her".
