The hood trend was Grace Jones' signature look in the eighties. Now, at the 2022 Fashion Awards, it's finally making a comeback.
Grace Jones serves as the model for the hood trend that dominated the Red Carpet at the Fashion Awards 2022.
Last year, VOGUE noted on the occasion of her 73rd birthday: Grace Jones is still the coolest beauty icon ever. But the actress and singer has also shaped an entire era with her extravagant outfits. Especially her signature look of the eighties, the hood trend, is still remembered today – and is now celebrating its brilliant fashion comeback on the red carpet.
This becomes clear at the latest when looking at the red carpet looks of this year's Fashion Awards, which took place last night in London. Several guests showed up with dresses that had hoods attached. In keeping with the elegant occasion, these were not worn low down on the face as with a casual hoodie, but only pulled up to about the middle of the top of the head.
3 Red Carpet Looks from the 2022 Fashion Awards – inspired by Grace Jones' 80s Hood Trend
#1 Simone Ashley in 16Arlington
Simone Ashley (of Netflix hit "Bridgerton" fame) opted for a lilac sequin dress by 16Arlington, whose hood, like the rest of the dress, was made of a flowing material. To match, the actress wore her hair in a wet look, which was shown off to great effect thanks to the hood that was only worn loosely.
#2 Sabrina Carpenter in Alberta Ferretti
A hood that flowed into the rest of the dress was also worn by actress Sabrina Carpenter. In her dress from Alberta Ferretti's Spring/Summer 2023 Ready-to-Wear collection, the hood actually emerges directly from the knot-like drape at waist level. Despite the retro reminiscence, the design has a futuristic feel – which is further enhanced by the gelled strand of hair.
#3 Sabrina Dhowre Elba in Vintage Christian Dior
Sabrina Dhowre Elba chose a different approach for her hood trend on the red carpet: her vintage Christian Dior look consisted of a fitted striped dress in which the hood in red fur look harmonised perfectly with the striped pattern in terms of colour, but which stood out visually from the red carpet dress due to the material alone.
