Harry Styles and the “spitting case” at Chris Pine, but what really happened?

The film causing the most discussion at the Venice Film Festival is undoubtedly one: Don't Worry Darling. First for the (alleged) misunderstandings between Olivia Wilde, Harry Styles and Florence Pugh. And now for a video shot during the official premiere on the Lido.

The film causing the most discussion at the Venice Film Festival is undoubtedly one: Don't Worry Darling. First there were the rumors about (alleged) misunderstandings between Olivia Wilde, director, and the two performers Harry Styles and Florence Pugh. The latter did, in fact, skip the press conference for the presentation of the film, in Venice out of competition, showing up only on the red carpet. Don't Worry Darling is a psychological thriller that tells the story of a couple, Jack and Alice, who in the 1950s are part of the "idealized community of Victory," a fictional town with townhouses and swimming pools built in the middle of the desert. The men all go to work on the mysterious Victory project, while the women prepare the roast. In addition to the three actors already mentioned, the cast includes Chris Pine, Gemma Chan, and Nick Kroll.

According to gossip, Pugh did not like the affair that arose on the set between Wilde and Styles, nor the chatter about rifts between her and Shia LaBeouf, apparently in contention for the role that later went to Harry Styles. Another story that has never been verified is then the one that came out on the gossip site Showbizgalore that Pugh's fee for the film was less than Styles', despite her actually being the lead character. Speaking to Variety, Wilde denied this report. As at the Lido he explained Florence's absence at the conference this way, "It's just gossip, it's okay. Florence is just very busy filming Dune 2."

Where will the truth be? While we were still wondering, another "case" popped up: in a video that immediately went viral on the Net it would appear that Harry Styles spat on a leg of fellow actor Chris Pine during the official Venice screening of the film. At the moment when the protagonists are taking their seats in the hall, the British singer seems to tilt his head toward Pine, who is seated between him and Olivia Wilde. He and the director have, in fact, publicly kept their distance as much as possible, never posing together alone for photographers.

This version of the Net was, understandably, immediately denied by the former One Direction spokesman. "This is a ridiculous story, a total falsehood, the result of a strange online delusion that is clearly misleading and allows silly speculation,"  Pine's representative told Variety. "Just to be clear, Harry Styles did not spit on Chris Pine. There is nothing but respect between these two men and any other indiscretion is a blatant attempt to create drama that simply does not exist."

Meanwhile, Don't Worry Darling does not seem to have been well received by critics, but it remains the film that people continue to talk about.
