The order of release, the performances, the guests: everything you need to know about the first semifinal of the Eurovision Song Contest 2022.
The countdown that dominated TV advertisements from April to this part has finally come to an end: the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 is, in fact, ready to turn on its bandwagon and drag Italy and Europe in a whirlwind for three days. of music, plays of light and variety able to cheer spectators, at least for a while, distracting them from the terrible news that continues to arrive from Ukraine. What do we need to know, however, about this first semifinal, broadcast on Tuesday 10 May at 9 pm on Rai1 and streamed on RaiPlay and on the official Eurovision YouTube channel? Leading the evening are, as we know, Laura Pausini, Alessandro Cattelan and Mika, while the commentary on Rai1 is entrusted to Gabriele Corsi and Cristiano Malgioglio, flanked by Carolina Di Domenico. The real protagonists, however, remain the 17 countries that will take the stage of the Pala Olimpico in Turin with the hope of being able to access the final on Saturday 14 May.
The event, which this year TV channels have organized with no small difficulty – just think of the hindrance on the scenography designed by Francesca Montinaro and the moving sun at the center of the stage which will remain still and dark, not with a few discontent of the competing artists – starts at 9pm sharp and ends at 11.30pm in the presence of around 200 million connected viewers from over 40 countries, including Australia, following the event early in the morning. Along with some criticism from the Spanish delegation about the Italian organization and from the French delegation, still on a war footing after accusing the Måneskin of using drugs on live TV during the 2021 Eurovision final, the Eurovision 2022 gallops towards the goal with head held high and with a swollen heart.
Together with the performance of the 17 songs in the competition – only 10 will reach the final – the first semifinal of Eurovision also sees, immediately after the performances, an Interval Act involving Dardust, Benny Benassi and Sophie and the giants, protagonists of a medley of Italian dance hits signed, among others, by Eiffel 65 and Gigi D’Agostino, and with the hand of Laccio in the staging. Further on, it’s up to Diodato, who takes the Eurovision stage for the first time with his Make noise, and the highly anticipated tribute to Raffaella Carrà anticipated by Laura Pausini. To embellish the show, which is directed by Cristian Biondani and Duccio Forzano, will also be the presence of 2 Big Five, or 2 countries that directly access the final, namely Italy with Mahmood and Blanco and France with Alvan & Ahez .
