CLAUDIA SCHIFFER: THIS IS WHAT THE NEW JEANS MODELS FROM HER CASPULE COLLECTION FOR FRAME LOOK LIKE

"Denim has always played a big role in my life, my favourite outfit is jeans and a jumper or a cotton blouse," says Claudia Schiffer.

In Claudia Schiffer's "Inside The Wardrobe" video for British VOGUE, the German supermodel reveals that she wears slim-leg jeans by Frame and that a third of her wardrobe consists of denim. And not just jeans in different washes, but also shirts, handbags and even shoes.

This is not surprising, considering that almost as many of Schiffer's iconic supermodel moments are associated with a simple pair of jeans as they are with haute couture. She rose to fame in the late 1980s with the Guess jeans campaigns featuring skin-tight jeans, a lace corset and a shock of blonde hair: "The campaign photographed by Ellen Von Unwerth was the breakthrough in my career," Schiffer explains, "we met in Paris when I was 17 and we were both starting out in the industry. We hit it off right away, hanging out near the Centre Pompidou and I posed for the shoot in my own clothes – my T-shirts and faded Levi's included."

The mid-90s were also marked by iconic Chanel moments in jeans – think Schiffer, who shone on the 1993 autumn/winter catwalk in an embroidered Canadian dinner jacket and cowboy boots with a CC logo. "The campaign was shot by Karl Lagerfeld in Munich and we were both so happy to be back in our home country," she says. "We treated ourselves to our favourite German dishes like Hefeklöße, sausages and sauerkraut and tried to convince the rest of the crew to do the same – we failed!"

Since 2012, Claudia Schiffer has been a self-confessed fan of the Frame brand.

Her memories of jeans in her teenage years go back to "high-waisted jeans by Chipie in a stone-wash look, combined with oversized sweatshirts by Fiorucci, blue eye shadow and lots of hairspray", but her more recent memories are with Frame. "Denim has always played a big part in my life and my favourite outfit is jeans and a jumper or cotton blouse. I've been wearing Frame's styles since they launched in 2012, the fit and detail is so good."

The Los Angeles-based brand teamed up with Schiffer in 2020 for a collection to benefit UNICEF. "She's been on countless mood boards over the years and is the ultimate Frame muse," says Erik Torstensson, co-founder and chief creative officer of the brand.

Childhood memory: a Fair Isle jumper piqued Claudia Schiffer's curiosity.

Now the label has collaborated with the supermodel again, this time for a collection of wide-leg jeans and knitwear, the starting point of which was a Fair Isle jumper by Frame for autumn/winter 2021 that Schiffer was dying to wear. "It was so beautiful and soft and reminded me of the traditional knitwear I used to wear as a child in Germany. It made me curious about how it was designed and made," Schiffer explains.

"We thought together about what her designs could look like and really thought about the extra details Claudia wanted," Torstensson says of the collection, which includes a pair of 70s-inspired faded "Le Hardy" jeans with exposed buttons, a cherry red après-ski jumper and a Breton striped jumper inspired by the French style of Jane Birkin and Sylvie Vartan. "From the beginning, it was about creating a capsule collection rooted in Claudia's European aesthetic and featuring timeless investment pieces."

Timeless: this Capsule collection features styles that will stand the test of time

"I wanted to make sure I could still love and wear this collection for years to come – that's the most important criteria," adds the supermodel. "I've kept so many treasured pieces (over the years), like vintage denim, cropped jumpers and twinsets… They feel like old friends," Schiffer gushes. Looks like she needs to make some more space in her walk-in wardrobe….
