These days Rome is hosting two of Hollywood's biggest stars: Charlize Theron and Uma Thurman. Indeed, since mid-June filming has begun in Italy for the Netflix series The Old Guard 2, a sequel to the action film made in 2020 that has become one of Netflix's most popular to date, with 186 million hours of viewing in the first 28 days of release alone. The cast of the series is the same – in addition to Theron, there are Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, KiKi Layne, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Luca Marinelli – plus two exceptional new entries: Henry Golding and Uma Thurman, precisely. Who together with Charlize on the set seems to be having a lot of fun. This is evidenced by the photos posted by the South African actress on her Instagram profile. In the shots the two divas rehearse a fight scene that ends with a hug and lots of laughter. "The work never ends," Theron jokingly wrote to accompany the images.
The Old Guard 2 is scheduled for release in summer 2023. Filming is proceeding apace, after being suspended a couple of weeks ago due to the fire that enveloped part of the Cinecittà studios. The role of newcomer Thurman is shrouded in mystery. Instead, Charlize will return as the brunette Andromache of Scythia, the paramilitary leader of the immortals in the fantasy saga based on Greg Rucka's comic book.
Charlize in Rome did not arrive alone. Alongside her during breaks in the filming were her two adopted daughters, August and Jackson, ages 7 and 10, respectively. When Jackson was only 3 years old, he had confessed to his mother that he did not feel like a boy, thus began the transition of the eldest of Charlize Theron's daughters, a decision the star has always accepted and supported: "I thought he was a boy until he looked at me when he was 3 and said, 'I am not a boy.' So here they are: I have two beautiful daughters who, just like any parent, I want to protect and I want to see grow up peaceful," she had explained a few years ago. While a few weeks ago he related, "They are so tall! Jackson now reaches under my chin-I don't know what's going on! But they are happy and they are healthy." And they are always close to mom Charlize. Even on set, between takes.
