Cannes Film Festival: the most beautiful couples ever on the red carpet

While the 2022 edition has just started, we have leafed through the album of memories to rediscover the couples who over the years, on the red carpet of the Croisette, have given us magical moments in which love is celebrated.

As always, everyone’s eyes will be focused not only on the films in competition but also on the couples who will parade on the red carpet, giving us magical moments in which love is celebrated. Last year, for example, the Palme d’Or for the most photographed went undoubtedly to Laetitia Casta and Louis Garrel. Married since 2017, a son named Azel, the two are among the most reserved couples in cinema. But to present La Croisade, an environmental story directed by Garrel himself in which they play the role of two parents, they made an exception. On the other hand, there are the regulars of the Croisette, such as Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban. Who in 2013, on the red carpet, also exchanged a passionate kiss in favor of flash. The actress and singer were also there in the 2018 edition, which gave us many red carpets as a couple: like that of Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem, who inaugurated the Festival, beautiful, looking each other in the eye. Or like the one, equally romantic, by Fedez and Chiara Ferragni, which began with a kiss overlooking the sea.

Going much further back in time, we rediscover iconic couples: like Romy Schneider and Alain Delon, who between the late 1950s and early 1960s were the king and queen of the festival; like Brigitte Bardot and Gunther Sachs: their arrival sparked the crowd, in 1967, and the police had to intervene. It had never happened before. Prince Charles and Lady Diana also paraded on the red carpet of the Cannes festival. It was 1987. The princess conquered everyone by sporting a blue Catherine Walker dress that went down in history as one of her most enchanting outfits. Nine years later the two royals would have been the protagonists of a stormy divorce.

On the other hand, there are many celeb couples who seemed to be in love on the Cannes red carpet but who could not stand up to the passage of time: from Riccardo Scamarcio and Valeria Golino to Vincent Cassell and Monica Bellucci, from Stefano Accorsi and Laetitia Casta to Kate Moss and Johnny Depp, from Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise to Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony. Leafing through the album of memories means retracing fairytale loves, loves that have ended, loves that have turned into nightmares (see the ex spouses Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie from years at war in court) but also tragic loves: it was 2018 when John Travolta and his wife Kelly Preston posed embraced at the Gotti photocall. Two years later she, killed at 57 from breast cancer, was gone.
