Actress Rachel Zegler: scarring and fear of breast lump at age 19

The 21-year-old star of West Side Story told of discovering a suspicious lump in 2019, which fortunately turned out to be benign: "The scariest week of my life. Early detection saves lives!"

Of the "scariest week" of her life now remains a small scar and an indelible reminder: prevention and regular checkups, including self-palpation, save lives. We are of course talking about breast cancer, and recounting her experience with the shadow of this disease, fortunately with a happy ending, was actress Rachel Zegler, 21.

In a story posted on her Instagram profile on Saturday, September 24, the star of the West Side Story remake shared a photo of the scar left on her breast after she discovered a suspicious lump in 2019 and immediately underwent a biopsy to ascertain its nature. "Fortunately, it was benign," Zegler wrote, recalling those days dense with fear and worry. "Now the scar serves as a reminder to check my breast regularly for any irregular growth: fibroadenoma in my left breast is a common occurrence, but still extremely scary to find. Early detection saves lives!"

The U.S. actress-who we will soon see in the lead role in the film Hunger Games: the ballad of the nightingale and the snake-shared her experience with a specific and important goal: to raise awareness among her followers, of any age, about the importance of cancer prevention. The noble invitation has more than one precedent, even in Italy. Recently, the iconic Mara Maionchi, who a few years ago underwent surgery precisely for breast cancer, dedicated an entire program to this issue. Valentina Ferragni had also told on social media last March that she had discovered several fibroids in her breasts, which needed to be monitored: "Although I am not related to breast or ovarian cancers (thankfully), it is essential to get checked as soon as something seems strange or we hear strange things! I recommend girls get checked and first of all try on your own to see if something is wrong and go to the doctor if you feel balls or strange things in your breasts! And above all get checked even if you are young! Prevention saves lives," Valentina Ferragni had reminded.
